Yamakaze Dormitory 8: Calm before...

Nino pulled the futon out of the cabinet and he carried them downstairs with two pillows, and a blanket. Although, he was staying at his own home, he couldn’t find himself settling. Going back after staying at the dormitory and having someone sleeping inside the same room, was something that he grew accustomed to. Come to think of it how did I spent all those times alone, before? It didn’t bother him then. Ever since his grandmother died and his grandfather’s transfer to another city, he stayed on his own. He should have no issue in doing so again, but for some reason the once familiar silence become something melancholic all of a sudden.

He knew perfectly well the reason for this feeling. He was refusing to accept since the beginning, but everything was amplified by the absence of those little annoying things in his life: the loud television when he was studying; the clothes on the floor; the drop of water on the floor; the annoying sound of keys when typing sporadically. And he wanted those little things back, no matter how annoying those things were, no matter how annoying he was.

Looking around him, a sudden sadness gripped his chest suffocating him. He needed to be away, with his shaking body he forcefully slid the paper door open, only to be welcomed by the cold wind of the night.

And though he had tried so hard in fighting the feeling, his body started reacting on its own – his vision blurred; hot tears welled up on his eyes and fell on his cheeks. This time no matter how he may have tried to wipe them away, they continued flowing.

Loneliness was something the he could never handle.

Resigning himself to the wretched emotion he had kept for a long time, Nino let himself cry for the first time, after so long.

“Idiot…”, startling Nino from his dismal state, “Who told you to come home to an empty house?”, Jun walked closer to the crying boy.

“You did…”, with his voice cracked from crying too much, he answered the taller guy with difficulty.

“The only time you’d listen to a word I say, you pick that moment.”, Jun walked up to Nino, lifting him from the floor, “You can really be a brat, sometimes.” And since Nino couldn’t find words to retaliate the other, he just clung to Jun. He didn’t know why or what was he trying to accomplish in behaving in such a way, but for this day and this moment he’d let himself be like his old self. And the other held him to calmness.

When the Jun was sure enough that Nino had finally breathing normally, and his little sob can no longer be heard, at least not so much, he hoisted the smaller guy to his shoulder and walked off carrying Nino.

“Jun! Where…”I can walk on my own.

“Quit it! You’d fall.”

It’s not that Nino didn’t like being spoiled like this, but Jun could have chosen some other time to be a little nicer to him and in a different way, this was way too embarrassing – his a high school student for Pete’s sake.

“Jun…”

“I’m not putting you down.”

“It’s not that.”

“Then…”

“I’m…sorry.”

“For what?”

“I don’t know.”

“For being a brat?”

“Yeah, for that too.”

The two remained silent for the rest of the walk, after that. And soon, Jun felt that Nino was becoming heavier, which only mean one thing – true enough the smaller guy fell had already fallen asleep.

Jun laid the sleeping boy on the bed and covered him with blanket. Nino looked like the bed could swallow him whole with his fragile figure. You really had it tough. Touching Nino’s cheek , where tear tracks were still visible.

A knock on the door was heard.

The dorm president and vice-president were already doing the roll call – luckily they got back in the dormitory on time.

Masaki entered their room. In normal times, Jun would have thrown a fit about it, but for tonight he’d be a little generous and let it slide. Because admittedly, he knew without the help of his noisy cousin, none would have been accomplished, though he'd die first before saying out loud.

“Good job in bringing him back.”, were the words that Jun received, and it felt really nice to hear those words.

Masaki and Sho didn’t spend much time in their room. “Jun, he really needs you.”, glancing at the boy sleeping soundly at the bed.

The taller man barely gave a nod to his cousin. And I need him.

Next morning…

Nino woke up. His feelings had finally clamed – being inside this familiar room helped him to feel at ease, and he had the taller roommate to thank for it. He scanned the room; everything was the same as he left it. Shit.

“Matsumoto, you idiot, wake up!” Nino shouted at the top of his lungs while kicking the bed where the taller guy slept.

“Shut up, pipsqueak!”

“What did you say?” At this moment, Nino was in full rage already. He grabbed Jun’s pillow and started hitting him, “You didn’t clean, you disgusting idiot”, continually attacking the sleeping with the pillow and words.

“Ahhh…quiet!” Jun stood abruptly, towering Nino, “Why do you think I brought you back for.”

“It’s such a nice day to…”

“Dorm President!” The door of the room suddenly burst opened revealing the students from Room 118.

“What is it?”

“It’s Room 117.”

“Ahhh…How many times do I have to punish those two?”

“Oi, Matsumoto! I’m not your servant! You bastard!”

“Oh yeah, you sure look like one.”

“Matsumoto are you really looking for a fight?”

“Enough with the ‘Matsumoto’. I got a name.”

“No way, you’re gonna go touchy again later, so Matsumoto is just fine.”

“I’m not!”, scratching his head out of irritation.

“Fine, Jun you bastard clean your mess!”

“I’ll do it later, so quit it!”

“Alright, as long as we’re clear.”

Jun patted his head before heading to the bathroom.
